Artist Ke$ha on Uffie in a New York Times Interview:
Some have compared Ke$ha, unfavorably, to Uffie, who is signed to the influential French electronic music label Ed Banger and whose sass-rap predated Ke$ha’s by a couple of years.
“I understand why people need to make that association,” Ke$ha said, “but it’s not like, ‘Yeah, let me just listen to Uffie and rip that off.’ ” At one point Dr. Luke held discussions with Uffie’s camp about producing her debut album, he said, though it never panned out. (Perhaps sensing the moment, though, Uffie recently announced that her debut album will be released this spring.)

Feadz Interview w/Girls Love DJ's
Here's an interview done by Girls Love DJ's:
GirlsLoveDJs: Hey Fabien, there’s not much info out there about you, except for some dry facts, like you worked with Mr. Oizo, Uffie and did some bangin’ EP’s for BPitchcontrol and Ed Banger. Ok if we get a little bit deeper than that?
Feadz: SURE
GirlsLoveDJs: How were you signed on BPitchcontrol? The old-fashioned ‘I sent a demo-way’ or did miss Alien see you somewhere?
Feadz: I'M DJ FOR VERY VERY LONGTIME I'M PASSIONATED BY THAT , BEEN BUYING MUSIC AND SCRATCHING FOR THE LAST 16 YEARS . ELLEN SAW ME PLAY IN 2000 IN BERLIN , AND WHILE I WAS PLAYING SOME EARLY BPITCHCONTROL RECORDS CAUSE I LOVED THIS LABEL SHE INTRODUCED HERSELF TO ME ,BEEN VERY NICE AND GAVE ME A FEW PROMOS . SINCE THIS MEETING I WANTED TO DO MUSIC FOR HER - BY 2001 I SEND HER SOME MUSIC AND SHE LIKED IT.
GirlsLoveDJs: Even though it’s sort of logical for the fans you switched from BPitchcontrol to Ed Banger (just seems to fit you a lot better), can you tell us how that happened? Is it linked to the Oizo-productions?
Feadz: UFFIE WAS A SPECIAL PROJECT AND PEDRO WAS IN TOUCH WITH IT FIRST , IT WAS SPECIAL AND IT WAS FITTING ED BANGER BETTER, I RELEASE 2 EP THERE ON MY OWN TOO BUT I'M STILL CLOSE TO BPITCH AND ALWAYS GAVE THEM NEW TRACKS FOR THEIR COMPILATIONS.
GirlsLoveDJs: How did you team up with Mr. Oizo? He seems like a loner, just doing his own thing, but he involved you into the production process of his Analog Worms Attack. How did that happen (where did you meet, how come he chose you?)
Feadz: LIKE EVERY MUSIC STORY IT JUST STARTED WITH FRIENDSHIP I LEARNED A LOT DURING ANALOG WORMS ATTACK AND I BEEN WANTED TO BE REUNITED WITH HIM EVEN THOUGH HE IS A LONER ! SO EVERYTIME I HAD GOOD TRACKS WITH UFFIE I ASKED HIM IF HE WANTED TO RMX OR PRODUCE THEM.
GirlsLoveDJs: Almost the same question about Uffie; how did you meet, and when did you realize she could become the ‘Queen of Electro’? (so many successful collaborations with a.o. you, Mr. Oizo, Justice and now her own album)
Feadz: WE FORMED A COUPLE YEARS BEFORE DURING MUSIC AND I JUST INVOLVE HER MORE IN MY WORK AND FORCED HER TO SING AND WRITE, NATURAL PROCESS TOO, NO AMBITIONS EXCEPT HAVING FUN.
GirlsLoveDJs: You can almost smell where this interview is going; I’m asking about all these collaborations, cause that’s what your most famous for (except for your turntable-skills). Of course everyone’s familiar with your EPs, which were successful, but didn’t you ever feel like producing your own full-length album?
Feadz: I WAS SO INTO THIS DJ STUFF WHO ARE DOING MUSIC WHEN THEY FEEL LIKE IT ,ON SEVERAL LABEL NEVER FULL LENGHT, BUT TIME IS DIFFERENT AND I NEED TO SET MY SOUND ON A HIGHER MEDIA NOW. I'M CURRENTLY WORKING ON AN ALBUM
GirlsLoveDJs: Could you try to explain what makes your selection and technique ‘hors pair’? I hope you understand, this question is for the people who haven’t been able to catch one of your sets yet, and don’t know what they have been missing out on until upcoming GirlsLoveDJs night. (maybe you can explain how you developed your turntable-skills with hip-hop and later-on used what you learned back then in your electro-sets)
Feadz: I'M JUST VERY PASSIONATE ABOUT WHAT A DJ IS MAKING PEOPLE DISCOVER NEW MUSIC, TAKE THEM SOMEWHERE THEY DID'NT EXPECT, SHOW HOW GOOD HE CAN BE WITH 2 OR 3 TURNTABLE OR CDJ, NOW ARTISTS ARE MOSTLY BOOKED ON THE HITS THEY DO, NO MATTER IF THEY BOUGHT ANY RECORDS IN THEIR LIFE IT'S GREAT FOR THEM BUT IT SEEMS THAT THE DJ CULTURE IS DIYNG A BIT. I JUST TRY TO DEFEND THIS "ART" OR IF IT'S TOO MUCH I WOULD SAY "SKILLS".
GirlsLoveDJs: When can we expect another EP?
Feadz: 2010 I GUESS.
GirlsLoveDJs: Whatever happened to your turntablism group Audiomicid? Do you guys still team up every now and then?
Feadz: NO, TIME HAS CHANGED, THEY ARE DOING THEIR STUFF I'M DOING MINE.
GirlsLoveDJs: With which artist do you feel strongly connected, in a way that you like almost everything he/she produces, and what is your tip for 2010 for us?
Feadz: DON'T THINK I'M SPECIALLY CONNECTED TO ANYONE, I LOVE DIPLO ,BOYSNOIZE AND MANY OTHER WHO HAVE THIS DJ BACKGROUND AND I THINK THEY ARE DOING GREAT OPEN MIND MUSIC, EVERYONE WHO IS DOING A GREAT JOB IS A SCOURCE OF MOTIVATION AND INSPIRATION FOR ME. MY FEW TIPS FOR 2010 ARE JOY ORBINSON, YOUNG L, LIL-B, L-VIS 1990, ALVARO ......
GirlsLoveDJs: You seem like the ultimate crossover between hiphop and electro, any plans for productions for hiphop artists or are you forever lost for the hiphop-side?
Feadz: NO THERE WILL BE DEFINATLY SOME THINGS HAPPENING THERE.
GirlsLoveDJs: You must be the expert by now; do girls really love DJs? (don’t hesitate to illustrate your answer with a nice anecdote).
Feadz: HAHAHHA, WHAT I CAN SAY IS THAT I'M DEFINATLY LOOKING FORWARD TO YOUR PARTY TO JUDGE BY MYSELF !
GirlsLoveDJs: Ok by now it should be quite clear what the fans can expect from you, but what do you expect from the fans when you come rock Holland’s most famous music temple ‘Paradiso’ @ GirlsLoveDJs?
Feadz: I'M EXPECTING CURIOSITY AND OPEN MIND, I'M NOT THERE TO PLAY SOME BLOG HITS THAT EVERYBODY KNOW.

DJ Mehdi EP Countdown - Day 15
4. DJ MEHDI and FAFI ‘Lucky Girl’ (2007)
Of course, the artist I remixed the most is myself. Matter fact, a lot of my tracks are actually distant remixes of older songs of mine and I always recycle beats and sounds. Everyday I wake up, turn the MPC on, and make a beat. If the beat holds it up to a lunch pause and supports a second listen, then it becomes a Logic session on my computer. From there to turn into an actual song can take one or two months, sometimes more. Often, my wife Fafi would hum along some melodies and I end up stealing parts of it without telling nor paying her. When it’s so obvious than I can’t deny it anymore, I let her sing it herself, but I always pretend that it’s an engineering nightmare to plug a microphone in, or impossible to find the power cable to that keyboard sitting on the desk in front of me.

DJ Mehdi EP Countdown - Day 16
3. JOAKIM ‘Oleg Dans Les Bois’ (1999)
Bending my Hip-hop style and rap beat-making techniques to dance music has always been a head-wrecker to me. Making the transition from producing french ghetto MC’s to rock it in Ibiza and Miami with Busy P sure was a career challenge. But nothing obsessed my mind more than finding new ways of forcing Ultramagnetic MC’s aesthetics into a (Boysnoize) DJ set. Let alone make a whole album out of it. Many of my DJ friends were telling me “Keep on doing what you do best!”, but of course they would’ve never played a 96 BPM french-speaking rap track at The End in London, which is where I wanted to hear it. Things started to change when Timbaland, Rockwilder and Swizz Beats appeared on the scene and started to alter misconceptions people on both sides had about the other. When The Neptunes set the whole thing on fire, everybody was obliged to understand the truth: it’s always been the same music, produced by the same people, using the same tools and instruments. After 20 years, Afrika Bambaata was finally right. At the time Gilb’r asked me to remix this ‘Oleg’ track of Joakim, I was still clueless. He played me this DJ Spinna instrumental that he really liked and noted how much he thought I could be going in the same direction. Retrospectively, a) you can definitely hear the heavy Spinna influence on this track, and b) he was, once again, so right.

DJ Mehdi EP Countdown - Day 17
2. BUSY P ‘To Protect and Entertain’ (2008)
Meeting Busy P is the second most important thing happening to my DJ and beat-maker life.
DJ Gilb’r had been playing and explaining techno and house-music to me since 1994. The Cassius boys gave me their La Funk Mob and Motorbass records while we were producing MC Solaar’s third album in 96. I met the whole Daft Crew in NYC in 97: Pedro made me a mix-tape of Kenny Dope beats and forced me into buying ‘Jam The Mace’ and a couple of Underground Resistance EP’s. But he was also a lot into Jay-Dee and The Alchemist. He became my manager in 2000 and founded Headbangers Entertainment in 2001. When he had the idea of starting a vynil label, I suggested him to tell people to “Call Ed Banger for feedbacks” and write his telephone number on the back covers. Then So-Me came into Pedro’s office - and never left. They started Ed Banger Records in 2003. Although I was always part of the family, I only officially jumped-in in 2005.
